The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has embarked on a unique initiative in collaboration with the Tata Group to plant trees as part of a plantation drive.
The drive was inspired by the number of dot balls bowled during the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had earlier announced that 500 trees would be planted for every dot ball bowled in the final stages of the league.
In total, 294 dot balls were bowled during the four playoff matches, resulting in the BCCI’s commitment to plant a staggering 147,000 trees. This effort is aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainability, reflecting the growing recognition of the importance of eco-conscious initiatives in the sporting world.
Providing a breakdown of the dot balls bowled in the IPL 2023 playoffs, the BCCI highlighted that each dot ball had significance. In the Qualifier 1 match between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a total of 84 dot balls were recorded.
The Eliminator clash between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) witnessed the highest number of dot balls, with 98 delivered. In Qualifier 2, the number of dot balls decreased to 68, and in the final match, only 46 dots were bowled.
The emphasis placed on the number of dot balls in the playoffs reflects the BCCI’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
